A. Call to Order: Robin Cannamela, President called the meeting to order at 1:11 pm
B. In Attendance:
Linda Pleva, Theodor DeBarbieri, John Frascatore, Sherrie Giola, Cathy Jecture, Noreen Lotko, Jaye Markwell, Doreen Miller, Diane Smith, Deborah Vitale, and guest speaker Judy Umsted. Jessica Corsaletti arrived after the meeting started. 
C. President’s Announcements: 20 min.

• Exemption from Accelerated Rehabilitation In Certain Cases of Animal Abuse. This bill has not yet gone before the Judiciary Committee, yet the committee does not currently support the bill as written now.

• Donations made to animals needing medical care in abuse cases: Digit and Walker from Waterbury (CT Animal House, Waterford) 

• Fairfield Five Courthouse conduct – DA follows proper courthouse conduct.  However, the owner of the property that Leuders

destroyed was making outbursts inside the courtroom in Bridgeport. They may not be members, but the court may assume they are if they are wearing purple or sitting near us. So It is OK to inform non DA members of proper courthouse conduct so they do not distract the proceedings of the court.  

• Welcome guest speaker Judy Umsted, ACO from Woodbury who

will be speaking after our lunch break about Connecticut’s Good

Samaritan Law which went in effect Oct. 1, 2018

• Report on funds raised at Millie Fundraiser:             $1,115.00

• Overall fundraising status for the 1st Quarter 2019: $4,445.00

E.   Hartford Habitat for Humanity On May 2 Desmond’s Army is again participating.  The build will be on Main Street, Hartford. Fundraising deadline is April 19 and looking for builders and donations.

G.  Guest Speaker: Judy Umstead, ACO Woodbury. Talking about Connecticut’s Good Samaritan Law and the protocol that should be taken with pets in hot cars.

The state of Connecticut doesn’t have a law that allows you to break the window of someone else’s vehicle to get the animal out. There are other states that now allow breaking into someone’s car to save a dog, but you still can’t do that here in Connecticut.

Reminder: Doreen Miller is our Coordinator for Volunteers for events. Please let her know if  you are able to volunteer for any of the upcoming events.

• May 18 Rescues for Life adoption event, Danbury 11AM

• May 18 Tazraks Bar & Grill, Naugatuck 5PM-1AM

• Aug. 17 BAAC Motorcycle Rally & Pet Adoption Event, North Haven

• Sep. 7 Bow Wow Bark in the Park Bristol, 10AM-5PM

It was also brought up that a gift cards great are a good idea for raffle prizes or to support non DA events we participate in.

J.    New Promo Item:

L. Pleva shared that a new promotional item was in development.  It is a Removable Bumper Stickers coming and are approximately 12 in x

3 in. for sale at Events. The sale price was still to be determined.

K.   Member Meetings: July 6*, September 28 and October 5, Desmond’s Legacy (Annual Fundraising

• *Discussion was had around the upcoming Member Meeting.

Members felt that the meeting date should be delayed to *July 13,

after the holiday.
