Two people were arrested Thursday on animal cruelty charges for allegedly

abandoning a neglected dog in Plainfield last month, leaving it tied to a gate with a horse lead with no food or water.

The malnourished dog was discovered on Sept. 18 around 5 p.m. when police responded to Olearos Hill Road in the Moosup section of town on the report of an abandoned German Shepherd, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

Members of Plainfield Animal Control responded and took the dog to a veterinarian. Police said the animal was in need of “much” medical care and had been neglected.

With assistance from the public, investigators were able to identify two suspects and obtain arrest warrants for them, according to police. They have been identified as 25-year-old Josette LaPrade of Willington and 22-year-old Dalton LaPrade of Danielson. Both suspects have been charged with animal cruelty, police said.

Following his arrest, Dalton LaPrade was held in custody and was expected to be arraigned in Danielson Superior Court on Friday.

Josette LaPrade was released on bond and is expected to face a judge on Oct. 22.

Police said the German Shepherd remains with animal control and is still receiving medical treatment. Information will be posted to the Plainfield Animal Control Facebook page should she come up for adoption.

Concerning the LaPrades who left their German Shepard tied to a gate without food or water:

Let the punishment fit the crime. If found guilty, their sentence should be being tied on a leash outdoors without food or water for a period of time.
